Quick update on SkyPilot 3

Hey there!

I just wanted to give you a quick update on SkyPilot 3, which is a massive update. At the moment we are working on the reliability of the sync engine and the way the logbook data is stored. When this is done we will focus on functionality like exporting or importing existing logbooks from SkyPilot 2. After that we plan to release a public beta and add some final touches.

Be sure to follow us on @CyanicSpace and @SkyPilotApp for updates.

All the best, Christoph

Announcing SkyPilot 3 🚀

About one month ago we announced that we are now developing the next version of SkyPilot with one major new feature and that is synchronization. At the moment we are implementing sync properly and by now we can tell you that it is lightning fast. Besides synchronization we plan to improve the experience during adding a new entry which gives you more entry options like if you are flying IFR or at night. Additionally, the statistics tab will also get an overhaul with more informational statistics like the night time, IFR time, single engine / multi engine time and several more. Next, the design. In SkyPilot 2 we introduced a whole new design which we won’t change that much in SkyPilot 3 - you will just see improvements and small UI changes. ✈️

In order to provide this service we need to change our payment model to a subscription basis. This means that you will have to buy a monthly fee of about ~$4 to get full access to SkyPilot 3.

I hope you are as exited as I am! 😊

Cheers, Christoph

The future of SkyPilot

It has been a while since we informed you about the future of SkyPilot. The last information you got was that we discontinued the development of the app but keep releasing bug & crash fixes. Today I am very proud to announce that we are going to overhaul SkyPilot in the near future and develop the app actively! 🛫🚀

Our plans / thoughts

SkyPilot was created for private pilots and we will add several currently missing entry options. In addition we are planning to launch a sync service which keeps all entries across your devices synchronized. Another service/feature which is currently in our mind is a web application which lets you access your logbook through the browser.

That is a summary of our thoughts on the future of SkyPilot. But there is one more thing which is very important and that is pricing. We can’t provide SkyPilot 3 for free and therefore we thought about a monthly/yearly subscription which won’t be that high, but covers our costs.

Location Dashboard 3.4 Update (formerly Pacific)

With this update we rebrand "Pacific" to "Location Dashboard" which is more precise for a location tracking app. Additionally, we made this change due to bad search results in the App Store and the bad association between Pacific and a location information app.

Furthermore, we changed the app icon, which you can see below:

To sum it up, everything is like before, except the name and the icon. So check out version 3.4 which also includes bug fixes and stability improvements.

All the best! - Christoph

Pacific turns 3 - a short visual history

Pacific, formerly known as SkyWidgets, turns three! 🎉🎉

You heard right, Pacific is three years old. Since the introduction of iOS 7 which empowered the Notification Center with widgets we knew we wanted to build an app which takes advantage of the new technology.

First of all, we started with an application which just provided widgets and the settings for them inside the app. A few months later we introduced the first Dashboard view.

About one year later a major update was released. With 2.0 we took the in-app experience to the next level and we changed the name of the app from SkyWidgets to Pacific. 2.0 brought a completely new Dashboard which was configurable and featured more information items about the location.

With version 2.0 we also introduced Routes and Quick Dial - a fast way to open a route or start a call directly from the widget. Additionally, we introduced Pacific Pro in this version, which enables more functionality and customization options.

After one and a half year we rewrote Pacific entirely in Swift, gave the Dashboard a new look, overhauled the complete design and user interface. And that's where Pacific 3.0 comes up. The new design and the user interaction abilities are better than ever before. And here it is, the new Dashboard:

Finally, we want to thank everyone who supported us in the past years! You are amazing and we hope you like Pacific 3.0 as much as we do.

Some facts about Pacific:

  • we shipped over 38 updates since introduction (that's one update in a month!)
  • Pacific has about 45k downloads
  • Our most successful application

Thank you! And stay tuned for new updates & features!

Pacific 3.0 is now available

Almost 3 years ago Pacific (formerly SkyWidgets) was launched. Since then we shipped 38 updates which introduced several new features. Especially Pacific 2.0 included more customization options and more Dashboard items.

With Pacific 3.0 we want to take the experience to the next level. A new designed Dashboard view with columns gives a good and clear overview about your location. The setup process has been redone as well. Simply hold an item and drag it to a new position on the grid. It's that easy! 😊

We also redesigned the Pacific website - there you can find all details about Pacific 3.0 (about Dashboard items, widgets and so on).

Lastly, we hope you will like Pacific 3.0 and would be very happy about a review at the App Store! 😊

This wouldn't be possible with your support!

Thank you! ❤️

Quick update on SkyPilot 2

SkyPilot 2 was released in early 2017 and hasn’t gained as much users as I thought. That’s why I am stopping the active development on the application. As I no longer support SkyPilot 2, the in-app purchase is now available for free.

What does this mean for you?

Well, you will still be able to use and download SkyPilot 2. Although, I will not ship updates with major new features anymore.

Thank you for using and supporting SkyPilot 2!

Pacific 3.0 Dashboard Concept

It has been a while since we published a major update of Pacific. In the last few weeks I thought about a new Dashboard which should be more organized. So, I opened Sketch and played around with the design of the current Dashboard view and the result was this:

Dashboard Concept

On iPhone we will stick with two or three columns, this makes it easier to view more information at a time. Additionally, the iPad view will get more columns in order to prevent the current unused space with no content.

To sum it up, we want to update the whole interface of the Dashboard view in order to make it more useful because of a better layout organization.

Please note, this is just a concept and the final product can look different.

If you have any ideas you can contact us via the Support page or on Twitter @cyanicspace!

SkyPilot 2 is now available

I'm thrilled to announce that SkyPilot 2 is now available for everyone for free. We also changed the pricing option to a one time in-app purchase (1,99$) in order to unlock all pro features and all restrictions.

SkyPilot 2 has been completely rewritten to make it easier and faster to use. We also changed the database structure to make it easier for us to organize logbook entries. When you used SkyPilot before, you can migrate the whole logbook to SkyPilot 2!

If you enjoy using SkyPilot 2, we would be very happy about a (positive) review.

Thank you!

SkyPilot 2 will be ready soon

Hi everyone!

Today I want to announce that SkyPilot 2 will be released very soon.

SkyPilot 2 was in development for a long time - obviously since summer 2016 (I'm very sorry for this huge delay). Generally, the app has been completely rewritten and now uses a much better database structure for logbook entries (which makes it much easier to add new features for us). Furthermore, SkyPilot 2 also features a complete new design which fits perfectly in our lineup with Pacific and we have added a fun iMessage sticker pack, which will gain more stickers over time. Version 2 also features a new Position tab, where you can see your detailed movement below a moving map, which shows your location. Finally, we also integrated support for 3D Touch.

However, I didn't get iCloud sync working 100% in the last days, so this major feature will not be included in the first release. (I will try to include it asap!)

Next, pricing. SkyPilot 2 will be available for free. However, you will need to subscribe to an yearly plan (about ±1,50$) in order to use SkyPilot 2 without restrictions. Personally, I think this is a fair and affordable price. (Pricing could change until release)
